Church services streamed live online have become a regular Sunday morning point of contact for worshippers staying at home under lockdown. Christ Church, High Barnet, is trying to widen its reach by inviting the public to post requests for prayers.

Within days of placing a prayer box outside the church in St Albans Road, there has been a stready stream of requests.

Almost every day, the Reverend Andy Rimmer (seen above with the prayer box) finds a fresh appeal for a prayer.

During his various online services each week he does his best to reflect the thoughts and messages that have been mentioned.

"Christ Church is anxious to reach out to the community at such an unsettling time during the coronavirus lockdown.

"We may be closed as a building, but we are very much alive as a church and I've been very moved by the response we've had to the prayer box.

"We've already had around 15 prayer requests.

"They help me prepare the daily prayer email we send out from Christ Church as well as our online Sunday service and two online gatherings a week on Zoom," said Mr Rimmer.

There is an online prayer meeting on Zoom every Wednesday and Friday between 4pm and 4.30pm and the Sunday service is streamed live via YouTube at ccbarnet.tv at 10am.

Over 200 meals, cooked by volunteers, have been delivered since the start of lockdown.

The regular foodbank operated by Christ Church is open every Friday between 11am and 1pm.

2020 is a special year for Christ Church which opened for services in 1845.

"We were so looking forward to celebrating out 175th anniversary. Sadly, it looks as if we will have to postpone celebrations until 2021," said Mr Rimmer.
